While this class uses character as an anchor, all genres are welcome. Creative nonfiction writers can expect something a bit more mind-bendy.
This two-hour class will provide:
A preparatory activity prior to class to help set the tone for this experimental approach.
Guided writing that sparks a conversation with a character we wish to better understand.
Craft study via literary examples to deepen work and encourage experimentation and/or revision.
Writing/revision activity to help us hear more from our characters.
Discussion to share insights and tackle tricky questions.
A takeaway activity to keep the momentum going.

Have a brand new character you’re just now getting to know
Have a longtime character who still needs excavating and uncovering
Are gathering feedback from writers groups and/or industry professionals that concerns character, i.e., “I’m not sure what the main character’s motivation is” or “I didn’t love this character as much as I wanted to” (You know, the cringiest stuff!)
